Honestly, if you live in Canada, how is the health system there?
I live in Buffalo, New York, and all I hear is how bad it is. We have patients that have come down here and paid cash for their bunion surgery as they did not want to wait one year or more for a podiatrist up there.
I had another man the other day who was born and raised in Canada and now lives here. His daughter had lazy eye. He was able to get an appointment there with an eye surgeon – two year wait. He came here, and the surgery was done within one month.
We have strict laws here for doctors that come here from another country. I used to work in surgery, and we had interns/residents who were already doctors in their country but they had to do the full residency here for the sspecialty they wanted, i.e. ENT, GYN. I heard that in Canada these doctors would have just been given their license to practice with the education they received in their own country. Is this true?
Regarding doctors with the education outside of N. America, this is not true. They would have to pass extremely rigorous tests, and in many cases they would rather choose to finish the university again than to pass all these tests.
Regarding health system, it differs from province to province, in Quebec we have a situation like that: for any service we have to wait a lot, even for a couple of years, depending on the service and urgency. But, once you manage to squeeze in, the service is stellar, nurses and doctors are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
