How to deposit cash into checking/savings account?

I have searched and people suggest not to deposit it into a machine because it might read the wrong amount you put in. How do you deposit cash into a checking/savings account? Do I have to talk to those guys behind the glass windows/counters? Sorry for asking such a stupid question. I’m new at this and want to learn. I have a Chase college account if that helps.

This is an excellent question. It is not dumb at all. There are two ways to do it. Bring your cash along with a preprinted deposit slip to the cashier’s window. Using a preprinted deposit slip assures that the money will go into your account. If you take a deposit slip where you have to write in your account number, there is always the possibility that either you or the bank tell may enter the number incorrectly. Make sure that you get a receipt from the tell. Keep that receipt at least until you see the deposit show up on your bank statement. If you don’t see the deposit on your bank statement, bring your receipt to the bank along with your statement and speak to a customer service representative.

The other way to deposit the money is to use your ATM card and deposit your money into the machine. The ATM card assures that the money goes into your account, and not someone else’s account. More and more banks have new ATM machines which allow you deposit the cash without an envelop. The machines are very accurate. They can easily tell the difference between a $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, or $100 bill. The machine allows you the option of getting a receipt. Tell the machine you want a receipt and keep the receipt at least until the deposit shows up on your bank statement.
