A ‘polygraph test:’ Why do they insist?
A friend of mine, living in another state, is being investigated as a ‘person of interest’ in a serious, but non-violent, crime.
He has not been charged but the cops have repeatedly asked him to take a so-called ‘lie-detector’ test. I and a friend here in California who is attending a local polygraph school (a closet Marxist and longtime member of the ACLU, he is planning to write later a free e-book telling how to pass polygraph ‘tests’), have advised him NOT to submit to such a test, as they are totally worthless.
The police keep telling him: ”Aw, come on, don.t worry! if you fail the test, it can’t be used in court against you!” But, I was just told by a paralegal for a criminal-defense attorney that failing a polygraph can be used to justify search or no-bail arrest warrants.
Is this true? That would explain why the police are so insistent that he take the ‘test,’ even though they are total krap.
Because the police use them to prioritize leads. If your friend passes the polygraph, the police will start paying more attention to other people.
And it can’t be used against him in court, that’s true.
Polygraphs aren’t “completely worthless” — that’s an urban legend. Believe me, if they were worthless, law enforcement would have stopped using them long ago. They aren’t accurate enough to be used as evidence in court, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t helpful in an investigation.
If your friend has something to hide, he should absolutely not submit to the exam.
